Welcome to the intuitive eating and body positivity Podcast. I'm Terri and I'll be talking about all things intuitive eating, body positivity, and Health at Every Size, and shaking off weight stigma, diet culture and food rules, so that we all have a better relationship with food and our bodies.

Hello, back to the original intro. No, no more Stevie Wonder. Did you listen last week? Did you like that? I thought it was a bit of fun. I had loads of nice messages after that as well. I had loads of lovely messages saying happy birthday. Well, thanks, guys. It's exciting. I love that. It's been here a year now. I love that the podcast is a year old.

What's happened for you this week? Has it been a good week? I hope so. It's been okay here. Nothing massively exciting to tell you about what has happened. Friday was international no diet day. Did you know that? Did you see that? It is a day for the world to celebrate not dieting. I love that. I love that people are celebrating that. That is amazing.

How ironic then, that our office, the people in my office that work all around me that know what I do have decided on international no diet day to start a new diet challenge. They didn't know that it's international no diet day. Not that I think that would have made a difference to them. But they didn't know that. So it wasn't just like they were rubbing salt in my wounds.

But yeah, they chose that day to start a new office challenge a new office diet. So of course, it's all getting very competitive already, as these things do. But not only as he got all competitive already, before they've even really began there are talks around how they're going to get the most out of their weigh ins, how they're going to lose this weight. All these dieting thoughts that come up for us as dieters are all clearly coming out of them already. So they have to finish the packets of biscuits that are in the office so that they're not going to be tempted to eat them, and how there won't be any more food brought into the office, and who's going to bring the fruit bowl. Well I'm sorry, guys, but I'm telling you now, if I want to bring in cakes and chocolate and biscuits, I will. In fact, I might do that.

Just to see how bad they feel. Not how bad they feel. I didn't really mean that. But I wonder who will be able to resist. Or I wonder who's gonna say, Well, I'll have a bit, but I'll make up for it later. You know all these dieting things that we think of I don't think they realise that they're saying and doing all of these actions that are so problematic. Already they're talking about how they're going to get the most out of the weighing scales and how they're gonna have to wear the same clothes, and they're gonna have to have not eaten before they weigh blah, blah, blah. You know, all those nonsensical things that we all used to think as dieters. Such a problematic way to live, such a problematic way to think.

But I'll just be there eating what I want enjoying life as an intuitive eater? Because that is what I can do. I'm not dieting with them. That is for sure. Let's see how long it takes them to get really fed up with it. You're probably wondering what I'm going to say to them about their dieting habits? Well, nothing. I think you have to pick your battles in life. Some people want to hear it. Some people do not. You as a listener, you obviously want to hear it because you're tuning in to see what I've got to say on not dieting and eating more intuitively, and getting a better relationship with food. But these guys in the office who are having a competition, they're not the people that I need to be shouting my message out. They know what I do. They've chosen to go ahead and do it. Whatever. I'm not going to bang that drum. I'll just be sat there with my smug face on eating my lovely food.

In celebration of no diet day though, I had a bit of a clothes cleanup. I do what many people do. I have winter clothes and warmer clothes. You know the clothes like the big chunky jumpers and the comfy sloppy clothes that you wear to be cosy in winter, those live in the attic in summer, then I have a set of clothes, that is my summer stuff, and they live in the attic in winter. I'm sure lots of people do that.

This week, down came my summer clothes. And out of the box came all of these things that I haven't worn for years because they don't fit me. So I thought, right, we'll see what fits, keep what fits, and this year, I am going to bin the stuff that I don't want. And by bin I mean, it's gonna go to the charity shop, or I might list it on eBay because I can make a bit of money for it because it's decent clothing.

I got down this box, boxes plural, and they were full of the stuff that I have not worn for years because they don't fit. And I don't know why I try them on year in year out because I haven't changed for the past few years. My body hasn't really changed for years. So why would they not fit me last year and fit me now? Why do we hang on to clothes so that we can get back into them at a later date. That is diet culture at its best, clinging on to things that we think one day might celebrate a smaller body? Well, no more people, no more, those clothes are going. And there's a lot of them.

There is a lot of them. But I'm really pleased that I've had a good sort out and got rid of these clothes. Well, I will be getting rid of these clothes, they're currently heaped up in my bedroom, ready to be sorted and ready to go. But I'm glad that they're going, I don't need them. I don't need to hold on to them.

So I spent international no diet day having a big clothes clean up, do the same. I urge you do the same. When you are getting those clothes out ready for your warmer weather, if that's what you do, then get rid of the stuff that doesn't bring you joy, doesn't make you feel comfortable, doesn't celebrate your body, doesn't fit you.

No more trying to squeeze into clothes that don't fit. No more wearing clothes that are tight and make you uncomfortable and make you focus on your body all day long. More wearing clothes that fit and are comfortable and are right for our body. Sell those clothes, make some money. You know, we quite often think I can't get rid of my clothes because I wouldn't have any close to where we'll take the opportunity. Sell your clothes, list them on eBay or Vinted or wherever you want to put them. Just get them gone. Get that money in your pocket. And then you can replace those clothes with clothes that do fit you.

Really what good are they in a box in the attic? They're not serving you there. Let's not cling on to a previous version of ourselves or a version of ourselves that we are desperately trying to be when we can just dress our bodies. Now we can dress them comfortably we can dress them well. We can look great in clothes that make us feel good. That other version of you that you're striving for is it realistic? Is it really realistic. Just have a think about it.

Now that's not to say that you need to get rid of clothes, kind of one size different. Our bodies fluctuates so it makes good sense that if we've got a pair of trousers that is a size bigger or a size smaller or you know clothes that sometimes they fit you sometimes they don't, that's fine. That's actually just good sense because you've got clothes that as your body changes you will still fit into. I'm talking those clothes that are sizes too small. Do yourself a favour. Get rid of them. It's no good for you. It's no good for your mental health doesn't make you feel good. doesn't fill your heart with joy doesn't give you have confidence in your body to try and fit into clothes that are just too small. So do it. Do it. Do it, do it. Let me know how you get on.

This week. I wanted to bring you some confidence and some motivation. I wanted to let you know that you are worthy of so much of life that you're avoiding. I want you to know that you you are worthy. It is difficult to feel confident it is difficult to feel like you deserve good things when you are struggling with your body image, and with your relationship with food, so this episode is all for bigging you up. This episode is about you knowing that you are entitled to and worthy of everything that life has to offer you.

You are worthy of beauty treatments and pampering. Now, you do not have to wait until you look quote unquote, better. Beauty treatments are for everybody. Pampering is for everybody. You don't have to wait until you're thinner to go and have these things. You don't have to worry about what the therapist is going to think. Beauty therapists are there treating different people day in day out. They have their hands on so many different types of bodies, they are not going to be thinking anything of it really if you rock up and want to have a massage, or a facial or a pedicure, whatever it is that you want to go and do, but you're worried about going because of what the therapist might think of you please do it. You are worthy of having beauty treatments, you are worthy of having pampering. Now, not when you think that you look better.

You are worthy of enjoying exercise. Without weight loss goals. You are worthy of feeling good in your body, of getting joy out of movement, of moving in a way that makes you feel good, and having your body have that buzz afterwards of how great it feels. You don't have to have weight loss goals. You don't have to be exercising with the intention of losing weight. You don't have to go on gruelling runs, just for the sake of it because you think that's what you should do. No you are worthy of enjoying movement as much as the next person.

So go out there and find something that you love doing. Is it walking in the woods, is it dancing, is it gym, is it classes? You do what suits you. You do what you enjoy because you are worthy of enjoying exercise and enjoying movement. It is not just a weight loss tool. And you don't have to feel like the only reason you should be exercising is to have weight loss. Enjoy your movement because you are entitled to have that great feeling that comes in your body after you have.

You are worthy of eating the food that you love without feeling like you shouldn't, without feeling guilty, without making apologies for your food choices or the amount that you've eaten, or the type of food that you've eaten. You are entitled to eat what you want when you want to eat it. You are worthy of fulfilling yourself and satisfying yourself with good food, food that you enjoy, food that makes your body and your soul feel good. You are worthy of that you don't have to excuse it and you don't have to feel guilty.

And while we're talking about food, you are worthy of having a nice meal out whenever you want to. You should enjoy eating out with friends and family eating what you want. Without criticism, without excusing your choices, without making apologies, without justifying it. You are worthy of enjoying a social setting that involves food. You are worthy of that. Go on treat yourself.

As I've already said you are worthy of wearing clothes that fit you wearing clothes that you are comfortable in. You do not have to hide in clothes that hide your body shape or that you think people should see you in. If you want to go out wearing this skinniest shorts and a cropped top, even if you think others would disapprove, you are entitled to do that. If you want to dress in some crazy combination of colours, and shapes, and patterns and jewellery, and you know that people are going to turn their heads and look, but you want to do it, then you do it because you are worthy of feeling good in your clothes, you are worthy of feeling positive and confident when you dress yourself, and you are worthy of wearing clothes that physically are comfortable.

Now, this is what I was saying earlier about the clothes sort out. Don't wear clothes that hurt your body. You are worthy of feeling comfortable in your clothes, you are worthy of wearing clothes that fit you. You do not need to be uncomfortable in your clothes, you are worthy of wearing things that make you feel good.

You are worthy of getting up on the dance floor and throwing some shapes. No matter how much space you take up and what people will think of you. Are you the kind of person that avoids dancing on the dance floor at parties? Do you stay in your chair because you are worried about what people will think if you get up and actually move around. Or you're afraid to dance because you're worried about what people will think of the way you look? Get up, be proud. Go and dance. If you love dancing, then you dance. If you love being in the middle of the dance floor, under the lights to music that you love, throwing yourself around and having a great time, then you do that. There is no reason for you to hide.

The dance floor is not reserved for thinner people. The dance floor is not reserved for people with perfect, in quote marks, bodies. The dance floor is for you, if you love it. And that's what it's about. Take yourself up there. If you want to go dance and you dance, you do it unashamedly. You enjoy yourself, you take up that space, because you are worthy of it as much as the next person.

You are worthy of love. You are worthy of being loved by somebody. Now, not when you're thinner. If you're in a partnership, then you are worthy of the love of that partner. If you're not in a partnership, you are worthy of the love of somebody to come. You do not need to lose weight in order to have that love from somebody, you are worthy of love right now. Somebody in the world loves you for who you are right now, as you are in your body as it is now. You don't have to be thinner to be loved. You don't have to lose weight thinking that's the way you get a partner. There is somebody for everybody. Hey, there are multiple people for everyone. And losing weight, and making yourself thinner, is not what is going to attract the person that will love you, the person that does love you. Know you are worthy of that love right now.

And when you have that love, you are worthy of a really good, really healthy, intimate life, shall we say? A promise is a promise and this will stay a PC listening area. But let's just say you're entitled to and very worthy of a healthy, intimate relationship. You're not there to be used and abused. You don't have to give yourself to all and sundry if you don't want to because you don't think you're worthy of any better. You don't need to withhold yourself from your partner because you think maybe they won't like the way you look. Or maybe you don't think that you can move in the same way as you would do when you were thinner, let's just say.

But they love you for who you are now, and that's the important thing. And let's face it, if they didn't want to be in that bed with you, they would not be in that bed with you. You are worthy of that as much as the next person. Why should you not have a satisfactory life because of your body size. Thin does not equal attractive, thin does not equal satisfied in that area. Everyone has their own personal preference for what they're attracted to. You are worthy of having someone attracted to you. You are worthy of having that great intimate life with somebody, you are worthy of feeling that pleasure. So you take it, it's yours.

Leading naturally on from that, ha, I didn't even plan it this way. It's just coincidental. You are worthy of children if you want them without losing weight first. Now, I am no expert in this field. So I'm not going to delve into this from a biological and safe pregnancy standpoint, but there are plenty of people in the world that have very healthy pregnancies in bigger bodies. You do not have to be thin to have children. And that's what this boils down to.

And then when you have children, you are worthy of being deemed a good parent, regardless of your shape and size. You don't have to have the criticism from other people on whether you are healthy enough or able to do enough with your kids. You are worthy of being a parent, if you want, if it's something that's possible for you, you're worthy of that, whatever shape and size you're in.

And when those children are growing up, they are worthy to of seeing you as a positive role model, and you are worthy of being seen as a positive role model. We can teach the kids better than they have known so far, we can teach people that people in bigger bodies are able to be just as great a parent, as somebody who is thinner, more agile, whatever they want to say it is healthier, blah, blah, blah. All this nonsense that we know is diet culture talking. We can teach them better. So you are worthy of being a parent. And knowing that you can be a great parent. Without being thinner.

You are worthy of being in photos, making those memories and having them recorded without the shame. You are worthy of being included in those scenes. I know it's difficult, I understand that is a really big thing for some people, but be in those photos take up that space, take place in that memory, in that recording of that memory in time, because you are worthy of that you don't have to miss out. You are entitled, and you are worthy of being there.

And you are worthy of being there without shame without having to apologise for what it looks like after without tormenting yourself over the way that you think you would like to look as opposed to the way that you actually see yourself in that photo. You are worthy of being in photos, and making those memories without shame.

You are worthy of your dream job. So many people are held back from going for things like jobs like promotions, like job changes, like their ideal career, because they're worried about how people will perceive them in their body. The world is an unfair place, and it is true that people are stigmatised in these things, because of their weight, because of their shape or size. We know that that is an actual thing. But you know what you are worthy of going for those jobs, you are worthy of presenting yourself as a viable candidate, you are worthy of that promotion, you are worthy of being your own boss, all of these things.

Whatever your dream is, in your career, you are worthy of that. You don't have to lose weight to get your promotion. You don't have to lose weight to go for a new role with a new company. You don't have to lose weight to start up your own business, to be an entrepreneur, or whatever it is you want to be. You don't have to lose weight to do that. You are worthy of those things right now.

You are worthy of respect from people. You put yourself down enough. I know that other people may also put you down. I don't know what your lived experiences are but I know that that's a very real thing for some people, but you are worthy of respect. You are worthy of respect from yourself. You are worthy of respect from the people around you. You are worthy of respect anywhere you go, by anybody at all.

You are not there as the brunt of other people's jokes, you are not there to be taunted, you are not there to be made to feel bad, you are not there to be shamed. You're not there to be put down, you are worthy of respect from other people. So you take that respect, you demand that respect from right now. People don't get to talk to you differently because you are in a bigger body or you're not their beauty ideal. You are worthy of respect. Take that respect. Demand that respect.

And on the same sort of note, you are worthy of commanding a room because people love being around you. Because you are a powerful personality. Because you have a lot to offer people. Because you have the greatest light that just shines out of you. Because you have a story to tell. Because you have jokes that you make. Whatever the reason is, you are worthy of commanding a room.

You don't have to hide in the corner. You don't have to hide behind a crowd. Be the presence you want to be. You take up the space and you be yourself. But your true self, your authentic self, your actual self, not your hidden self because your hidden self is feeling uncomfortable and ashamed of the way that they look. Absolutely not. You be proud of yourself. You be proud of the way you look and the way you carry yourself and you take up space.

And finally you are worthy of life. You are worthy of enjoying life without waiting for weight loss, without apologies without criticism, without justifying yourself. You are worthy of a full happy life. Go out and get it. How much of your life have you wasted to dieting? How much of your life do you wish you'd done slightly differently if you had more confidence. Do it. Take it. Be confident today.

You are worthy of all of those things and there is bound to be a massive list of other things that I haven't even mentioned today. Take it. Grasp life. And you do you. You do you boo. Because you are worthy of it. Know that.

Have I pumped you up ready for the day? Have I? Or the night, maybe I've pumped you up ready for the night. Whatever it is, just go out there and get it.

You are blooming wonderful. I'll speak to you next week. See ya.
