Welcome to the intuitive eating and Body Positivity podcast. I'm Terri and I'll be talking about all things intuitive eating, body positivity and health at every size, and shaking off weight stigma, diet culture, and food rules, so that we can all have a better relationship with food and our bodies.

All right, let's get straight into it. None of this gentle chitchat to start the episode with. Nope. Today I am bringing you some energy. I am bringing you a positive peptalk.

So what do you want for your life? What do you want your life to look like? What do you want it to look like around food? And what do you want your body image to be? How good do you want these things to feel? And at the moment, are those things holding you back? Are they stopping you from doing things? Are they stopping you from enjoying your life? Maybe.

So today I'm going to talk to you about positivity and gratitude and manifesting and the power of those things, because they are incredible when you work with them. And you can do that, you can do it. You can be positive. You can be grateful. You can manifest this life that you want. You can do it. I promise you can. This is all about energy. It's about the energy you bring to your life.

Because I know there are outside factors, I know there are things that impact on our lives that change our energy, but ultimately you hold the power to change what life feels like for you. Now I know that bad things happen in life, OK, I'm not taking that away. I'm not pretending that your energy is the be all and end all. But I am telling you it is such a massive part of how you see your life.

It really is. This might seem a little bit woo right now. Is it? Does this feel a bit woo to you? I love woo stuff. I am a firm believer in manifesting and the universe looking out for you. I am absolutely a believer in that because I have used gratitude and positivity and manifesting to make things better for myself. And yeah, sure, there's things in life that I would like to be different. But God, the way you see it, the your outlook on life, it's so different when you choose to make it different.

And this means you need to have a little bit of faith that there are forces out there outside of you that are going to impact on you and your life. But you know what? We don't know everything there is to know about energy and forces outside of our life do we? I am a firm believer that there are forces and powers out there that support us and it's all energy, it's all energy. So you have to work with that energy.

Now a lot of people think that manifesting is putting thoughts out there and attracting the life that you have. Ok, now to a degree it is. But a lot of people think that you attract everything that happens to you. They think that you put this thought out there, you put energy out there, and if you put positive thoughts out, it brings positive things. If you put negative things out, it brings you negative things. That's not the way I see manifesting.

The actual definition of manifesting, if you take it back to I think it's Latin, but I'm not sure, don't quote me on that, is making things happen through your actions. So I believe that you can put positivity out and you can put gratitude out, but you also have to take action steps to make things happen.

I don't believe you just put thoughts out there and it creates whatever you're thinking about. That's not the way it works. You have to have that and positive steps too. So when we talk about manifesting, we're talking about putting this energy out, putting the thoughts out and also taking the steps to make things happen. And with all that in mind, you can do this.

So you can create your life with energy. And think of it this way, if you believe that you can have a positive, freer life around food and with your body, then you will actually make that happen because you will take more positive steps towards making that happen. If you believe that you can't have a better life around food around your body, then naturally by those beliefs you will not take the positive steps. And so you will stay in a space where it's less positive, a bit more negative, controlled by your thoughts, controlled by your feelings. So naturally, if you are believing that it's a possibility, you will naturally move towards it. You will make things happen.

So today, make that choice. No matter how badly you feel about your body, no matter how horrible your relationship with food is at the moment. Make the choice today to start taking steps to make it better. You can take those steps. You can choose to create a different life for yourself.

Does this feel a little bit off the natural vein of this podcast to you? I've not really talked about this stuff yet, have I? I've not talked about my thoughts and my feelings around manifesting and energy and stuff so this might feel a little bit new to you, but just take it on board. You might be the kind of person that is all about that already, or this might be completely new to you. Or maybe you've heard about it before and you just not convinced. Well, stick with it and listen to the episode. And then maybe just one or two little things in there you might try yeah.

How is this linked to intuitive eating though because intuitive eating is a way of being more in tune with your body and eating in a more natural, intuitive way, isn't it? That's very much an inside thing, so it feels a little disconnected maybe to now be looking outside of ourselves. But it's not really outside of ourselves this energy, the universe, all of that. It's not just outside of ourselves, because it's stuff that has to start inside.

In the intuitive eating membership that I have, the Eat From Within membership,it's all about taking three steps towards making a situation easier around food or your body, and each thing can be broken down to thinking about your mind, your body, and your heart. And so this is very much a part of how I consider the whole manifesting thing as well. We're going to think about food in our body logically with our heads. We are going to listen to what our body wants and what it's saying it needs at any given time. But there's a big part of intuitive eating that is making sure that you are satisfied and happy too.

A big part of eating is making sure that not only are you full, that you've eaten enough, but that also it has satisfied you. And a large part of the body positivity stuff that we talk about is about making sure that you feel kindness towards yourself, compassion towards yourself, and that's making sure that your soul is satisfied, your heart is satisfied and happy. And this is what this very heavily links into the whole manifesting. The gratitude, the energy. It's all about making sure that your soul, your heart is happy.

So intuitive eating and energy, the intuition inside us and the energy outside of us are so massively linked that it can only reinforce the work you're doing inside you.

Start with gratitude. Start with seeing the things around you and appreciating the things around you. Start seeing everything from the big and obvious to the very small, the things that you think are insignificant.

So for example, it's just been my birthday. Yay, happy birthday me woohoo. I love birthdays, you know that if you've listened to the podcast for a while. I love birthdays and I had some really lovely presents for my birthday. .

To give you an example of two of them, I had a beautiful bracelet from my daughter and let me tell you about this bracelet. So when we went to France, I saw this jewelry. The most beautiful jewelry. Now, i really like jewelry, it's my thing. I'm not bothered about clothes and things like that, but jewelry i love. I've usually got three or four bracelets on at any given time. I like earrings, I like necklaces, that sort of thing. And these bracelets really stood out to me. And they had matching rings and things like that. And I didn't buy one. And then when I was retaining from holiday. I thought I'd buy one and it wasn't available.

The one that I wanted wasn't available, and so Jessica bought it for me and surprised me with it. It was amazing i love her for that. Well, and for everything else obviously, she's my daughter, but I love that she did that. It was so thoughtful and I loved the jewelry, so that was a beautiful present and a present that obviously I am grateful for. And that was, I think, a very generous gift, very generous gift.

Now somebody else, my sister, bought me some flowers along with the present that she gave me, and they are my favorite flowers. She bought me some gladioli. I love them. They are my favorite flowers to have in the house in a vase.

They're just so lovely, and they start off looking very simple, very basic, and then they bloom into these amazing bright colours. I love them. She didn't know they were my favorite flowers to have in the house. She didn't know, but she bought them and I was super grateful for them.

Now there's two polar opposites. There is a bunch of flowers versus a quite expensive piece of jewelry. I'm equally as grateful for both of those things because they make me happy. They make my soul happy. They put the right energy in my life.

So take a look around you now. What can you see that makes you feel like that? What have you got around you right now that makes you happy? That's the kind of energy you wanna get into. You wanna see the small things around you that make you happy. That might be a book that you're reading. It might be something that you have on display in your home. It might be the candles that you like in the evening. It doesn't matter what it is, if it brings you the right vibe, if it brings you the right energy.

And it doesn't have to be expensive. The expensive things can make you happy and should make you happy, and the small things can make you happy and should make you happy. So it doesn't matter what the value of that thing is, it's about how you feel having it around you. So start by seeing the good things around you that maybe isn't food or body related.

Start there, start feeling good about the things around you and then you can move that to food. What food makes you happy? What food makes you feel really good about eating it? What food looks great on the plate and you just can't wait to dive in? You know, bring yourself that energy when you make your food.

Now, we can't always cook up a fancy dinner, can we, that we think looks incredible on our plate. Sometimes it's just gonna be a quick sandwich or a bowl of cereal. You know, these are the realities of life. But if you can regularly put (regularly? That sounded funny, but it was right, wasn't it?), regularly have food in your life that makes you feel good then that's bringing the right energy to your food.

And then move that to your body. How do you feel about your body? Maybe you feel awful about your body right now. But let's start by being a little bit grateful for some of the things your body can do. You don't have to love it, you don't even have to like it. But let's start with some gratitude for it, and that will help to start bringing the right energy about.

So maybe you could be grateful for your hands? Maybe when you hold your partner's hands, that feels nice. So you can be grateful for your hands. Maybe you could be grateful for, I don't know, maybe you like the way your shoulders look in a certain style of top. Well, that's something to be grateful for. Maybe you are lucky enough to have fully functioning legs and so maybe you could be grateful for your legs carrying you around day in, day out, getting you through life. You know they don't have to be anything special. You don't have to like the way they look. But you can be grateful for them.

So let's start being grateful for the parts of our body that we have, the things that they're able to do, the way we're able to function in life because of our bodies. Now, obviously there are going to be situations that mean that you don't have fully functioning parts of your body, for example, but there's still something there to be grateful for. There really is still something to be grateful for if you look.

And it's all about the positivity. You might think that it's difficult to be grateful for your body but actually, get that positive head on and find something to be grateful for right now. Find something in your body that you can be grateful for. It's all about smashing through those limiting beliefs that we have, isn't it?

We believe that we have to change before we can do things. We believe that we have to be thinner or fitter or that horrible 'healthier'. We believe that we have to change something about ourselves before we're able to do an activity, before we're able to go out in public, before we're able to socialise. But those are limiting beliefs because on the whole, they're not really true.

We've talked about this in previous episodes a lot and we will continue to talk about them because it's all about how we look at these situations that we're in and the feelings that we have. But these are things that are almost certainly not true. You do not have to be thinner to be able to go out and socialise with your friends. You do not have to be slimmer, thinner, lighter, a different shape, a different size to do the majority of the exercises that you want to do or the majority of the activities that you want to do. There might be limitations, yes, there's limitations in life everywhere, but on the whole you can probably do most of the things you want to do.

It's about a confidence that you are lacking, and it's about limiting beliefs. It's limiting beliefs that you are imposing on yourself, and these limiting beliefs have been told to you, taught to you, for a long, long time. It's no wonder that we believe them when it's constantly put to us that we're not good enough. But these are beliefs that you are holding and that you can change, and you don't have to change your body to suit other people's expectations so, the positivity that we're looking for is about challenging those limiting beliefs, and once you start being positive in your thinking, then the way you see life becomes different.

If you start to tell yourself that you're going to go out and you're going to have a great time, then you'll almost certainly go out and have a great time. If you tell yourself you're gonna go out, you're gonna sit quietly in the corner, you're not gonna talk to anybody, you're not gonna have a good time, then that's probably what's gonna happen. So get positive. Get positive about the way you approach life. Go on, go at it head first. Be positive. You can have an awesome life if you get out of your own way. Not changing your body to suit. Not waiting until you're thinner or lighter or slimmer or a different shape. You are going to have a great life now.

And think how those thoughts feel to you. So let's go back to that socialising example. If you think that you're going to go out, sit in the corner and only speak when you're spoken to, you're not going to put yourself out there. You're not going to be the life and soul of the party. When you're thinking about that, how does it feel? To me, that feels very claustrophobic. It feels very contained, small, dark, I suppose. It feels very constricted. How does that feel to you?

Now change that thought, and if you think of yourself going out, having a great time with your friends, not a care in the world about your body, remember in this example, your body doesn't matter. You're going to go out, you're going to have a great time, you're going to have fun with your friends, you're going to enjoy some good music, you're going to dance, you're gonna have some good food, some good drinks you're gonna have the best laughter you've ever had in your life because you're just out there having fun. How does that feel? How does that feel to you?

To me, that feels free. Even as I'm talking to you now, my body language is different. When I talked about the first example, I was very kind of hunched over. Now I'm sat, I'm more upright. I'm my arms are open. I feel freer thinking about that situation. It feels like there are no constraints, like there are no rules. It feels lighter. It feels so positive.

Same situation, two different approaches. The positive approach always feels better. It feels better inside. It feels better intuitively. It feels better energetically. It just feels good.

And you can do this with food too. You can change your relationship with food. It might take some work because these things are deep seated. The habits that we get into, the behaviours that we form, they they're ingrained in us. I know that. So I'm not saying it's like flicking a switch. Just be positive, everything will be grand. But you can change that relationship by starting to change your attitude towards it. Be positive about food. Be positive about the food that you put on your plate. Be positive about making that food. Be positive about eating the foods, you know.

You can either approach your next meal as something you have to eat because you have to eat, or you can approach it with a positive head on and be excited to create the food that you're going to eat. Even if that is just making a sandwich, you can be really positive about it.

It's about habit building. Positivity, gratitude. This positive action that you're taking towards creating this better life for yourself. It's about habit building. Because at the beginning maybe it feels a little bit strange if you're trying to be super positive about things all the time. I know that can feel a bit unnatural. I know it can feel a little bit forced, but it's about habit building. Because once you get into the habit of doing that, it becomes a more natural thing to be positive, and see the good things around you, and see the goodness in yourself and the goodness in the food that you're eating.

I love affirmations, right? Affirmations are statements that you can read, say, repeat, and it helps to reinforce the way that you feel about something, and it helps to create the life that you want to lead. So you might say, 'I have trust that my body will tell me what it needs to nourish itself each day'. Right, that's an affirmation. I have trust in my body, blah blah blah blah. And it's speaking in a way that says this is my life. You write it and you speak it like you mean it, like it's happening now.

You'll notice that I said I have trust in my body. Not one day I might trust my body, or one day I'll trust my body. I said I have trust in my body. You have to write and speak these things like you mean it, like it's happening, like it's a reality. Because remember, we're creating that life, and we are talking positively about that life, and saying it as if it's now makes it more real. It's not something in the future. It's not something that one day you'll achieve now. We're being positive now, we're starting now, we're being grateful now. So with your affirmations, it's about saying them as if it's happening now.

And some of them might feel a little bit like it's like it's a bit of a lie because I could say I love every part of my body. Now that is not a truth. It's not a truth. But as a positive affirmation, if that's what I've chosen as my affirmation, that's the way I would say it, because I'm speaking it as if it's happening now, you see.

By using affirmations, you create this trust in yourself. You create a trust in your body, in your ability to eat more freely. You trust in your intuition more. You give yourself kindness and compassion, and that's what affirmations are all about. It's about reinforcing what you want for yourself and being kind and compassionate at the same time.

So there are there are loads of affirmations out there. I can't really attach affirmations to this podcast, can I? Actually, do you know what? I'm gonna put a link in the show notes and then you can go and you can download one affirmations sheet.

So these affirmations are things that I give to my members, my Eat From Within members, each month in the membership. The module has a new affirmations sheet, which is a set of statements that you can use for the month, and as you collect them then you'll build up quite a catalogue of these affirmations that you can pick and choose from and you can use to help you be more positive and more grateful and manifest this more positive life. So I will attach one of those sheets to this episode to show notes.

And the way to use affirmations is you take the statements and you can actually use them a few different ways. You can choose a statement to have as your daily affirmation, and you get up in the morning and you say your affirmation, and then you say it a regular times through the day.

And each time you say it, you take a minute to focus on it so. If I was saying I trust in my body to tell me what it needs to nourish it today, then I would say that first thing in the morning, And then later in the morning I would focus on it and say it again. And then maybe at lunchtime, maybe in the afternoon, maybe in the evening before bed, just regularly through the day.

I trust in my body to tell me intuitively what it needs in order to nourish it. And it's reinforcing that belief, it's reinforcing that actually I do trust in my body to tell me what it needs. You can choose a new affirmation every day. You can pick one to use for the week. You could, repeat it regularly through the day, or maybe you will take 5 minutes, 10 minutes to think on it when you get up in the morning and again before you go to bed instead. That's another way to do it.

So there's lots of ways you can use affirmations. Whatever feels right to you. You can pin them up around the house or the space that you're in, and maybe you can put one on the fridge and maybe you could put one on your bedroom mirror. Maybe you could have one on your desk. You know, all these little places where you can regularly see and reinforce these messages for yourself. Lots of different ways you can use them. But affirmations are really powerful. They're really good and a nice way to start thinking positively if you're not able to do that for yourself to start with because it's a difficult thing to start. Speaking nicely about yourself is a difficult thing.

Also, be that person. Approach life as that person. Live your life as if you have no care in the world around your body. Live your life as if you have no food issues. Start living the life that you want to live. Because what's going to happen? Are you just gonna carry on and think about it, and then one day, maybe you'll have that life? No. Have it now. Have it right now. It's there. It's yours for the taking. You can have that life right now.

You know that old saying, fake it till you make it? That. That's what we're doing here. We're gonna start telling people, we're gonna start showing people. You're gonna tell yourself, you're gonna show yourself this is the life that you were meant to be living, and live it the way you want to live it. Not with these food rules.

To do that, you have to keep your energy high. You have to keep the energy high. Positivity around you. Your environment, make it positive. Curate your social media feeds. Get rid of the stuff that makes you feel bad about yourself. Fill your social media feeds with positive stuff that makes you feel good, stuff that makes you feel empowered. Find social media feeds that when you read their captions, it makes you go "hell yes, this is my life". Do it.

People around you will do what they do, OK, but positivity breeds positivity. So if you are positive, if you are happy and smiling and bursting with this great energy, it's infectious and other people will pick up on that.

No one has the right to take that away either, you know. Don't let other people take that energy for you. I know some people are energy sponges. They drain you if you're susceptible to allowing people to take your energy. Some people are naturally easily drained by negative people around them, I know that. Protect your energy. Make sure you give yourself the space away from those negative people.

But keep that vibe up. Be positive. Be positive about yourself. If you're not positive about yourself, why should anybody else be? If you do not believe that you're awesome and you are an incredible human being, and that you are valuable and that your life is worth its place in this world, who else is gonna believe that? Put it out there. You are incredible. You are awesome. You do have a place. You are valuable and worthy, and you bring something unique to the world that nobody else brings.

And take that energy and put it out around you. There's only so much you can do with some environments, I know. I mean, we don't all have control, do we, over our work environment, for example? But you can make it as positive as you can make it.

Do you know what, tomorrow I'm gonna do something with my desk. I'm gonna make it a more positive space for me to sit at because I'm looking at my desk right now, and I've got some receipts, I've got some paperwork, I've oh, I've got an affirmations deck. Oh, I'm going to read you some of these before I finish this episode. That's funny. I didn't even know that was there. I've got, yeah, I've got an affirmations deck. I've got. What else have I got? I've got a spare pair of headphones, some pens lying around, some coins.

It's not particularly positive space, it's just a little bit, dare I say, cluttered. I don't like clutter, so I don't know why my space is like this. Tomorrow I'm going to do something positive with my space. I'm going to make it a positive energetic match for the energy that I want to put out. So I encourage you to do that as well. Make your space around you that you spend a lot of time in positive. Do something to make it a positive space.

And have music that makes you feel good. Music's really powerful. I don't know if you particularly like music. I love music. We've always got music on in the house, always got music around me, and just makes me feel good. Can you remember the last time you put a song on that you loved and you turned it up and you danced around the house like there was no care in the world? That's the energy that you need. That's what you want.

Get the stuff around you that makes you feel good. And podcasts, too. I mean, I know why I'm here, giving you all the energy today. You take it, take it and use it. But in general, if you listen to a lot of podcasts, get stuff on your list that makes you feel good, that makes you feel empowered. Put stuff on your list that makes you feel good.

And go with the flow. The universe really has got you. Put it out there and let the universe support you. Put those good vibes out, put that good feeling out, put the good energy out, and then let the universe support that.

Now I'm just gonna tell you because you're probably thinking, "how's the universe going to support me, Terri?". Well, actually, I hope you're not, by this point in the episode, I hope that right now you feel great. But basically, the whole manifesting and law of attraction thing is not just a bit woo it's actually been proven with quantum physics, that the energy you put out attracts that energy back to you.

I can't explain it to you because I am not good with physics. I certainly don't understand quantum physics, but when it was explained to me in more layman's terms, I got it. I can't repeat it cause I can't remember how it was explained to me, but basically it's an actual physical thing that the energy that you put out will be matched. It will come back to you. You will attract that energy.

Everything is energy. Everything around us is energy. Even the actual hard physical things around us are made-up of energy. So put that energy out, let's have things matching your energy, and let's make that positive. So let the universe support you. Let it have your back. And the more you do it, the easier it will become and the more you will attract the better stuff.

Honestly, if you make a pact that tomorrow you are going to get up and you are going to hit your day head first with positivity. Come the end of the day, see how that feels. See how that feels different. See how that feels like a great day.

It's really easy to go about our day and be negative and think that, oh, nothing has gone right today, you know, that kind of a day. But if you go at it with positivity, I promise you it will feel a whole lot different. Even the negative things in the day, even the people that annoy you, you will find it easier to brush them off, to brush those things off and deal with them differently.

Be consistent in your actions. Keep going. When you are having a bad day, what has that energy been like? Look back and think, OK, that felt like a bad day. How was my energy today? And have you been a little bit negative maybe? Could you have been more positive? Could you have impacted the way your day has gone somehow? But be consistent. Put your positive actions out there. Take positive steps towards improving your relationship with food and improving your body image.

Take positive steps towards those things and a little bit of gratitude every day. A little bit of gratitude for something in your day before you go to bed each evening. Why not spend a couple of minutes and list three things that day that you've been grateful for? Three things. So today, for example, I am grateful for a very chilled out day. I had a little drink last night, I'm not gonna lie, birthday celebrations. So today I am grateful that I didn't have anything in the diary and I was able to just chill out for the day before coming on and recording this. That's something to be grateful for.

I am grateful for some cooler weather. It's still warm. We've got the doors and windows open. There's a nice breeze flowing through and I'm grateful for that. I love fresh air. So I'm happy that even though now it's September and it's starting to get a bit darker in the mornings and it's starting to get a bit darker in the evenings, I'm grateful for warm weather and a bit of a breeze through the house.

And for my third thing. I am grateful for fresh bedding. Today is change the bed day, and I adore the smell of fresh bedding on the bed. Ah, there's nothing better is there, than getting into a bed that's freshly made. Really clean sheets, really clean duvet, really clean pillowcases. Oh, I love it.

So that's my three things so. What are your three things? What three things are you grateful for today? Feel free to message me if you feel silly just putting it out there and you actually think you wanna direct it to somebody. Feel free to send me a message and tell me what you're grateful for. But yeah, three things. I bet there's three things in your day-to-day no matter how big or small, that you can be positive and grateful for.

Ooh, actually put it on the chat. Come into the community chat group. You will have heard me say about that in the last episode, I think, and it's in the show notes. The link is in the show notes. Come and join the community chat forums that I've set up. I love it. People are on there chatting and celebrating things, supporting each other. There's some really nice people in there. I'm going to start a gratitude thread there.

So come into the chat forums. It's so much nicer than Facebook. I hate to say it, I'm sorry, I don't wanna diss any business, but God, Facebook is full of negativity and cryptic statuses and adverts and promotional stuff that nobody wants to see. You know, it's too busy. That's exactly what I don't like about it. It's busy.

The chat groups are lovely. They're really lovely. And there's none of that. There's no advertising there's yeah, it's nice, and it's got its own app, so you can still have it on your phone like you would Facebook, but it's a nicer place to be. So once I've recorded this, I am going to set up a gratitude thread and, yeah, come and join me on there and tell me what you're grateful for today. Now go out there. Be positive. Be grateful. Be energetic. Be your very best awesome, unique self.

And I can't wait to hear how this makes a difference to you. Let me know how you get on. Take care. I'll speak to you soon. Bye, bye.
